Volume 2 of what I’ll be watching this month has finally arrived! If you’re tuning in from the last issue, here’s what I didn’t manage to get around to watching:
‘Inland Empire’ - My boyfriend also really wants to see it and trying to get him to sit down for a 3-hour movie spontaneously has not worked so far.
‘The Elephant Man’ - See above. Also I was just never in the mood to watch it alone.
Season 1 of ‘The Studio’ - My brother’s Apple TV account logged out of my TV and I was waiting to binge-watch it all at once.
These forgotten-watches will carry over into this month so I can check them off my overall, lifetime watchlist!
IN THEATRES (hopefully…)
There’s actually a lot of heavy-hitters coming out this month (and this summer), so looks like I’ll really be reaping the benefits of my Cineclub subscription!
‘BALLERINA’
Look, I’m kind of over the whole female assassin movie trope. But I’ve seen every ‘John Wick’ movie with my dad so I will sit through this spin-off and hopefully hope it subverts the stereotype of it’s predecessors (‘Salt’, ‘Black Widow’, ‘Atomic Blonde’, etc)
‘THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME’
I watched my first Wes Anderson film, ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’, last month and was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it. (Read more on why on my Letterboxd review).
Anyways, why not see this in theatres? It looks fun and as I’m sure I’ll say many times onwards, nothing beats the spectacle of seeing something on the big screen. Plus it feels like every actor ever is in this movie so hey- why the hell not?
‘MATERIALISTS’
Everything I’ve heard about this movie is either really good or ‘meh’. Very attractive cast, which I think will get a lot of butts in seats. I haven’t seen a good romantic movie since I watched the ‘Before’ trilogy back in 2022.
Not really going into this with high hopes, and I will be making very quiet ‘Madame Web’-related remarks and references to my best friend during the movie. Her web (matchmaking service) connects them all.
M3GAN 2.0
I didn’t even remember this was getting a sequel till the trailer dropped. Welcome back to the big screen, M3GAN and Marnie Michaels!
I think this will be a blast, but I just hope the humor is good and not all “Slay bestie, hold on to your vagina! Girlboss queen moment!”.
LIFE OF CHUCK
I really need this film to not make me even more scared of dying. I’ve never seen a Mike Flanigan project, so I think starting off with something non-horror isn’t really the way to go. Plus I don’t think I’ve ever seen (nor read) a Stephen King project that isn’t horror either.
SORRY BABY
I have extremely high doubts that this will not play at my local Cineplex, and I’ll have to wait for it to hit VOD.
“Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on - for everyone around her, at least.” -IMDB
The only thing I know about this movie is the poster, and the cat in it that looks suspiciously like mine. (If anything happens to the cat, I will cry.)
ON STREAMING
‘ASH’
“Riya wakes up on a mysterious planet to discover her crewmates have been slaughtered. When a man arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues.”
I’ve seen some really great reviews for this, so once it hits Shudder on June 20th, I will be watching!
‘THE LURE’
Did y’all know this is a musical? I remember seeing it on Shudder and never really looked deeper into what it was. Recently I’ve been doing Letterboxd matchmaking (Using people’s four favorites to recommend them 4 new movies they should watch) and came across this on a horror-musical list. Instant watchlist add.
‘HOUSE’
People have been recommending this to me for years, so I think I finally have to bite the bullet and watch it… But this is also a movie my boyfriend really wants to see, so we’ll see if I can actually get him to sit down and watch a movie at home.
TELEVISION
‘IRONHEART’
I don’t really care about Marvel stuff anymore, but I’ve always been intrigued to see how they would pull off a show like this in a post-RDJ-Iron-Man universe. Anyways, it hits Disney+ on June 24th, so we’ll see how much I like it if it stays on the watchlist for July!
‘OVERCOMPENSATING’
This show released on Amazon Prime last month and I just never got around to watching it. It’s only 8 episodes and I think has a strong chance of a quick renewal, so I’ll binge-watch it some rainy weekend. (Also… Has anyone noticed the work weeks are always beautiful and the second Saturday hits it rains till Monday? Can a meteorologist explain that please?)
‘ADULTS’
In the same vein as ‘Overcompensating’, FX and Disney+ have dropped a new show called ‘Adults’. I think Gen-Z is really trying to make their ‘Sex and the City’ or ‘Girls’ equivalent. We’ll see how this turns out!
Like I said last month, I don’t want to set my personal watchlist goals too high this month- cause obviously I cannot watch everything I want to. I hope this list helps you find something to watch this month!
Let me know what’s on your June 2025 watchlist! Check out my Letterboxd to see what I’m watching!
