What I'll Be Watching In July (2025 Edition)
Too cold for shorts in the movie theatre, too hot for pants outside.
SO… It’s been a hot second.
My last Substack article was my June 2025 watchlist, I cruised along my unknowingly two final weeks of unemployment and then started a new era of being a library clerk! Exciting life update!
In terms of what I saw from the watchlist from last month it was… not a successful month- except for theatrical watches!
Regardless of how few I marked off the list, I did still manage to log 28 films on Letterboxd, watched the entirety of ‘Nirvanna the Band the Show’ in less than 24 hours, and binge-watched the new season of ‘The Bear’ in a few days.
This month’s list is pretty brief! There’s like an internal panic I feel around watching something different or re-watching an old favorite over what I had said I was going to watch this month. We’ll be pretty loosey-goosey, and who knows? Maybe I’ll do a mid-month check-in!
June Favorites
As I said, less than 24 hours to watch all of Vice’s ‘Nirvanna the Band the Show’ (8 hours straight according to bingeclock.com) which is by FAR the FUNNIEST thing I have watched in ages! Immediately started a re-watch with my boyfriend solely so I can catch his reaction to a cameo in one of the last episodes.
I really enjoyed my first watch of ‘28 Days Later’ as well as the newest sequel, ‘28 Years Later’. Never thought the original film was the actual PEAK of zombie media and it’s all been downhill from there.
In Theatres (hopefully)
I WILL go see ‘Superman’ WITH MY DAD. I don’t think I’ve actually ever seen a Superman movie except for ‘Batman vs Superman’. This looks good! I’ve been so out of the DC Extended Universe film stratosphere but I’m hoping this new era will finally give them some great films and future franchises!
I was wrong last month and ‘Sorry, Baby’ is actually out this month! I don’t even see it on my local theatre’s listings for this weekend when it’s supposed to open so… Not high hopes I will get to see this in theatres and will probably have to wait for it to hit VOD.
I will watch all the ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ (above) films leading up to the newest reboot (below) dropping on July 11th! This is one franchise that’s been on my list forever but has never actually made it to the tv screen to be watched.
Let’s hope the newest ‘Fantastic Four’ film can finally break it’s curse of bad adaptations with ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ releasing on July 26th! Pretty good cast- I do have my qualms with Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. Fingers crossed it doesn’t suck!
At Home (TV and Streaming)
‘Nirvanna the Band the Show’ got it’s start in a 2007 web series called ‘Nirvana the Band’, I’m about halfway through that now so I will finish it (obviously)!
You can watch the webseries and the Vice series here on the Internet Archive.
I completely forgot last month that my favorite least favorite TV show ‘And Just Like That…’ would be returning for it’s third season. I believe it’s 4 episodes into the season now and honestly? It’s not that bad, still unbelievable and at times painful (like Aiden crankin’ his hog in his truck on the phone with Carrie).
I think the writers really stepped up their game and realized another cringe and garbage season would lead to cancellation. Bravo so far!
HOT SAW SUMMER, BABY!
I want to re-watch all the ‘Saw’ films this summer as inspired by Dead Meat’s current re-watch & re-review podcast they’re doing!
We’ll keep it short and sweet this month! I’m sure there’s a lot more I’ll be watching and logging over on my Letterboxd. Let me know what’s on your watchlist this month!
